Dr. Germán Bersalli joined the Chair of Sustainability Transition Policy in April 2024. His background and research reside at the intersection between ecological economics and public policy, with a central focus on the evaluation of policies that drive transformative change toward zero-emission economic systems.
Germán´s research interests include assessing the relationship between crises and structural change, policy mixes for net-zero transitions in the Global South, novel approaches to measure progress in the energy transformation, and the geopolitics and sustainability of critical raw materials supply for the EU energy transition.
Germán holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Grenoble Alpes in France. He has taught university courses, including Renewable Energy Policy, Energy and Sustainability, and Climate Policy in the Global South. He is currently a research associate at the Research Institute for Sustainability (Helmholtz Centre Potsdam). Previously, he worked at the GAEL research centre (France) and the Argentinean National Bank and studied at the universities National of Entre Rios (Argentina) and Federal do Parana (Brazil)
