Moniek de Jong joined the FAU Chair of Sustainability Transition Policy in 2024. Her research focuses on natural gas policies in the European Union and their geopolitical implications. In addition, she has worked on issues related to the energy transition.
In 2022, Moniek obtained her doctorate from Ghent University at the GIES research group. Her PhD research focused on the topic on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. She studied at the University of Groningen (Bachelor’s and Master’s International Relations) and Masaryk University (Master’s Energy Security Studies). In addition, she interned at the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (2015-2016) in Vilnius, Lithuania, where she worked on critical energy infrastructure protection. In 2013, she analyzed the Australian energy market during her internship at the Dutch Consulate General in Sydney, Australia.
